BELIZE CITY, Mon. May 14, 2018– The Football Federation of Belize (FFB) National Amateur Women’s League (NAWL) 2018 completed Week 5 of its Group Phase over the weekend. Aýfter Week 6, the top 2 teams from each group will go on to the home-and-away semifinals.

In the only NAWL game on Saturday, undefeated Jewel Fury of Belmopan had to come from behind to secure a 2-2 draw with visiting Toledo Rumberas at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium. After a scoreless first half, Ashley Rodriguez struck twice (64’ & 67’) to give Rumberas the 2-nil lead; but Suswani Martinez came up with 2 big goals (77’ & 90+’) to equalize for Jewel Fury, who maintain their lead in the standings.

On Sunday at the Norman Broaster Stadium, also undefeated Gladiators from Orange Walk came away with the 2-0 road win over Verdes Rebels of Cayo, courtesy of second half goals from Naileny Manzanero (50’) and Kaite Jones (74’). Meanwhile, up north at the Santiago Ricalde Stadium, home standing Corozal Scorpions clipped winless Millennium United, 1-nil, on a goal by Aida Pena (47’). Also on Sunday, down south at the M.A. Stadium in Independence, the home team, Sagitun remains winless, as they fell, 3-nil, to the visiting Dangriga Pumas, who got a goal apiece from Tiresie Lino (35’), Twila Chaneb (89’) and Nykemah Kuylen (93’).

With one week remaining in the Group Phase, the standings leader in each group has already secured a playoff spot; and likewise, the team at the bottom of each group is out of playoff contention.
