BELIZE CITY, Mon. Feb. 8, 2016–After a rocky start to its Closed Season 2015-2016, with only 1 game played on the opening weekend, and 2 games played the following week, the Premier League of Belize (PLB) is finally approaching full gear in its competition, with 2 back matches played last Thursday, February 4, and a full slate of Week 3 games played this past weekend.

First, let’s record the official details on the Week 2 games played on January 30 and 31. On Saturday, January 30, at Norman Broaster Stadium, it was Police United, 4-2, over Wagiya. For Police United, Darren Myers (12’), Danny Jimenez (58’), Harrison Roches (84’) and Devon Makin (86’); and for Wagiya, Jacinto Bermudez (7’) and Donnel Arzu (15’). And on Sunday, January 31, at the MCC Grounds, BDF and Belmopan Bandits played to a 0-0 draw.

Next were the two Week 1 back matches, both played on Thursday night, February 4. At the Norman Broaster Stadium, Verdes FC dropped BDF, 3-1. For Verdes, Deon McCaulay (10’), Jarret Davis (39’) and a BDF own goal by Vallan Symns (76’ OG); while Vallan Symns (54’ PK) also got the only goal for BDF, from the penalty spot. Meanwhile, at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium, Placencia Assassins FC blanked Wagiya FC, 3-0, with goals from Luis Torres (43’), Ashton Torres (72’) and Ashley Torres (85’).

In Week 3 action this past weekend, 1 game was played on Saturday and 2 on Sunday. On Saturday night at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium, home standing Wagiya held visiting Belmopan Bandits scoreless through three-quarters of the match, before falling, 3-nil, as the Bandits got late goals from Jordy Polanco (79’), Elroy Smith (88’) and Marlon Meza (90’). On Sunday, at the Norman Broaster Stadium, where Verdes FC hosted defending champs Police United FC, it was 1-1 at the half, and 2-2 late in second half, before Police got the game winner for the 3-2 final score. Shaking the net for Police United were Amin August, Jr. (29’), Devon Makin (75’) and Elio Ramirez (86’); while for Verdes FC it was Nahjib Guerra (4’) and Gilroy Thurton (60’). Meanwhile, at the MCC Grounds in Belize City, BDF defending their home turf with a 3-1 victory over visiting Placencia Assassins FC. After a scoreless first half, Harrison Tasher struck twice for BDF (47’ & 53’) before Dalton Eiley, Jr. (75’) cut the lead in half for Placencia. But Leon Cadle (85’) sealed the 3-1 victory for BDF.

Only 1 back match remains for the PLB to catch up with its season schedule, and that game takes place on Wednesday of this week. See upcoming back match and Week 4 schedule below:
