BELIZE CITY, Mon. Dec. 1, 2014 Central Zone high school basketball games were rained out last Thursday and Friday, so the female semifinals were concluded on Saturday, while the male semifinals began on Saturday and will be completed this evening at Bird’s Isle.

In game 1 of the female semifinals last Wednesday, SCA had edged Wesley, 17-16; and Gwen Lizarraga High defeated Maude Williams High, 39-22.

Game 2 of the female semifinals on Saturday, November 29, saw SCA completing the sweep of Wesley with a 14-6 victory. Brianne Jex led SCA with 8 pts. And Gwen Liz also made it two in a row against Maude Williams with a 22-14 win. Kayla Bowen led Gwen Liz with 14 pts, while Latifa Ferguson had 8 pts for Maude Williams.

Following the female semifinals on Saturday, the males took the floor for game 1 of their semifinal series.

The first male semifinal was a real nail biter, as Sadie Vernon Tech clipped Anglican Cathedral College, 72-71. Top scorers for Sadie Vernon were Glency Lopez 35 pts, and Raheem Staine and R. Galvez with 11 pts each; while for ACC, Kelvin Swazo had 20 pts, and Keyvon Evans and Antwaun Rivero had 12 pts apiece. The other male semifinal was also closely contested, as SJC pulled out the 43-38 victory over Gwen Liz. SJC was led by Dudley Erskine 22 pts and S. Cabral 9 pts; while Karl Smith had 16 pts for Gwen Liz.

The same male teams clash in game 2 of their semifinal series this evening at Bird’s Isle, with the two best aggregate scores determining the two teams that go on to the finals best-of-3 games series.

For the females, SCA and Gwen Liz are already set to meet in their best-of-3 finals series.
