Verdes stunned in week five PLB action

SportsVerdes stunned in week five PLB action

PLB league leaders, Verdes FC, fell behind San Pedro Pirates FC after only six minutes of play when Inri Gonzaga converted for the Pirates from the penalty spot. The league leaders went into their locker room at halftime down 2-0, because of another Gonzaga strike, in the 37th minute. Elroy Kuylen scored for Verdes in the 65th minute, but that was not enough. When the sun set on Broaster Stadium, it was San Pedro Pirates FC 2, Verdes FC 1.

The Belmopan Bandits SC had to come from behind twice, before they got over a valiant Freedom Fighters FC at the Victor Sanchez Union Field in Punta Gorda. Kyle Flowers went to the penalty spot in the 14th minute and calmly put the Freedom Fighters ahead. Romy Sanchez replied for the Bandits after 25 minutes of play. Flowers put his team ahead again, in the 44th minute, but from there the veteran Bandits took control of the game.

Belize’s most important player, Elroy Smith, got the Bandits level again, in the 54th minute. Darwin Bermudez put the men from Belmopan ahead in the 59th minute, and Norman Anderson sealed it in the 82nd, completing a hard earned 4-2 victory for the visiting Bandits FC.

The young Wagiya FC went to the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan and held a seasoned Police United FC team to a 1-1 tie. Warren Moss scored in the 40th minute for the visitors, but perennial goleador, Daniel Jimenez, knotted things up in the 53rd minute to salvage the point for the lawmen.

Struggling BDF FC got a goal in the 90th minute from Raymond Ramos to pull even with Placencia Assassins after the league’s hottest striker, Luis Torres, put the Assassins ahead in the 38th. Final score at Michael Ashcroft Stadium: Placencia 1 – BDF 1.

After week 5 Verdes still leads the PLB, with 12 points, but the Bandits, who have a game in hand, are just 2 points behind.
