Yesterday, Geovani Lennon, 21, a prison officer at the Kolbe Foundation Prison, stood before Magistrate Aretha Ford to answer to the charge of drug-trafficking.
On March 16, 2010 at 6:30 p.m., Lennon checked into the prison, and during a routine, mandatory bag check, Grade 1 prison officer, Irma Wallace, searched his bag and in a hole deep in the inner bag, 94 grams (3.31575 ounces) of marijuana were found hidden.
Lennon initially pleaded not guilty, but today he changed his plea to guilty and owned up to the marijuana that was found in his possession.
Magistrate Ford fined him $10,000, but because he is a first time offender, he didn’t have to serve the 3 years jail time that comes with that mandatory sentence. He has to pay by November 30, 2010, and he defaults in payment, he stands to serve 3 years.
