Many in the Belize private sector are hopeful that this Tuesday?s visit of Mexican President, H.E. Lic. Vicente Fox, and his entourage of about 45 high-ranking government officials and influential businesspeople, such as leading Quintana Roo businessman, Mario Felipe Rend?n Monforte, could mean good news for the Belize private sector, anxious to tap into Mexico?s huge market.

What was once a comfortable working relationship between Glenn D. In the 70?s there was a catchy phrase that said, ?What if there was a war and nobody came?? I never really understood what that meant, but then that was the 70?s when everyone was in their ?thing? and could care less where the war was. It was all about partying and having fun.
In this case, we should have asked, ?What if there was a football game that turned out to be a swim meet and you forgot your swim trunks?? The air was thick with excitement and the pitch was under approximately 3?6 inches of water and muck in some areas. Saturday night in the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence

In our limited experience with tours, no one has led from start to finish. The previous gigantic battles, such as Ian Smith?s race-long fight against Guatemalan Louis Muc Macu in the 2001 Coca Cola Tour De Belize, where the ?Jed jersey? changed hands four times in an eight day tour, have become staple for us. It came down to a final day upset. Ian put a gap on Macu, melting the 2 minutes 8 seconds lead that Macu was taking in the final day.

It is some three weeks since Novelo?s began to use electronic ticketing. Although this can be seen as a positive step forward, it is a step taken by leapfrogging over other more urgent changes, ones which should have been made first. The ticketing may be in the computer age, but the buses themselves are still in the Dark Ages!
When you get right down to it, the history of the world has been defined by wars of various kinds. The nationalism of countries like Mexico has been painted in blood, and because that is so, other countries in the world hold their country as something sacred.
Allow me a space in your prestigious newspaper to say how proud I am of the editor and the publisher of your newspaper for the way you all handled the passing of a true ?General, of our time,? General Odinga Lumumba.
Saying that the tide rises and falls doesn?t appear to be an appropriate comment or statement in this case. Perhaps the first thing that comes to mind when you hear ?tide?, is the thought of water. Even though water is our most precious resource, for the sake of this piece it?s of little importance. TIDE is the acronym for Toledo Institute for Development and Environment, and based on my experience in Punta Gorda over the weekend, the inaugural season of the TIDE Freshwater Cup will not stop here, but will continue to rise.
Lynn Young, Chief Executive Officer of the Belize Electricity Limited (BEL), told Amandala today that unless the company gets the 14.6% rate increase for which it applied this March, it would be at risk of not being able to pay for the power it is now importing from Mexico.
This would mean that Belize could be cut off from its major power source, forcing indefinite blackouts across the country.
