Saturday night?s excitement was a real treat to all the fans that came out to support their teams. Game 1 involved the two teams that were fighting for their first win of the tournament, as SHC (1 ? 2) narrowly edged Belize Bank (0 ? 3) by 1 point, with a final score of 53?52. SHC was led by Karim Juan with 25 points. Juan sank 7 free throws at the end of the game, and Dean Lewis contributed 11 points, and played big in the paint. Belize Bank was led by the three-point shooting of Oscar ?Jordan? Quewell, who tallied 26 points in a losing effort. ?Jordan? was backed by Allen Rosado, who scored 12 points. SHC proved to be too strong down the stretch, as Belize Bank was plagued with fouls, ending the game with only 3 players. In the second game, BECOL (1 ? 2) fell to G & R Rentals (2 ? 1) by the score of 87?77. As usual, the game was hotly contested. Desmond Wade?s sharp shooting led his team to victory. He netted a season high 41 points, followed by Evan Reynold?s 27 points. In a losing effort, Reynold Bodden dominated the point with 31 points, followed by the Usher brothers – Gerald and Steven, who scored 16 and 14 points, respectively. The first half ended with BECOL holding on to a 4-point lead, after leading by as many as 11 points. G & R?s full-court trap defense in the second half proved to be too much for BECOL, as fatigue stepped in to make the difference in the game. After much discussion and debate, the Over?25 Basketball Committee approved BECOL?s protest of this game, so this game will be replayed on a date to be announced. On Tuesday night, Young Veterans defeated BECOL in a thriller. Young Veterans were led by the scoring of Paul Gillett and Richard Hoare, while Joe Awe, Ronald Bodden and Gerald Usher led BECOL in scoring. In the second game, G & R rentals had an 11-point lead, with 1:22 left for the first half, when the game got rained out. That game was finished on Wednesday night, and results of that game will be posted in next week?s edition. This weekend will feature BECOL (1?2) vs. Belize Bank (0?3) in Game 1 on Friday night, followed by SHC (1?2) vs. St. Ignatius (3?0). The Saturday night showdown will be between SHC (1-2) and Young Veterans (3-1), followed by G & R Rentals (1-1) and St. Ignatius (3?0). All games get started at 7:20 p.m., so come out and enjoy a great weekend of basketball games.
