Youth, 16, stabbed in the back with 6-inch blade for $1.25

GeneralYouth, 16, stabbed in the back with 6-inch blade for $1.25

Police said they believed that the motive for the stabbing was robbery, but it appeared that Garcia?s attackers were not successful in getting any money from him.

Demetri Martinez, 19, a security guard at the meat shop, said he saw the Hispanic young man run in the compound and upstairs the school, then he saw a group of about four young men run past the shop.

It appeared that they had an argument over $1.25, said Demetri, which he overheard, before the group attacked him and one of the young men stabbed him.

The group of four men then fled the scene.

Police had captured one of Maslo?s assailants yesterday just minutes after the incident occurred, but no charges have been levied as yet.

Maslo?s brother, Sabino Garcia, 20, told Amandala that his brother had left home sometime after 1:00 p.m. to go to his old school to get a school transcript so he could register to attend Canaan High School.

It?s a very unfortunate event for the Garcia family, said his brother, who spoke about ?a curse? that apparently had been put on the family.

Three weeks ago, their only sister, Mara Noemi Garcia, 20, was murdered in Ladyville after two minors of the area almost decapitated her head, slitting her throat with a sword at her employers? home.

Maslo is lucky to be alive, said Dr. Emerson Mungia, because the 6-inch blade did not damage any major tissues.

Although it entered near the kidney, Maslo?s wound has been classified as superficial; however it took doctors at almost three hours to remove the blade.

Over two inches of the six-inch blade had entered Maslo?s body, and because of its jagged edge design, it could have poised more danger had it entered further, said Dr. Mungia.

Sabino said that just a week ago, his brother was robbed, but he did not make a report to police. Taken from him were his school transcript, photographs and $15.00 dollars.

Just two years ago, his mother, Gabriella Garcia, a tacos vendor, was shot in the stomach during an attempted robbery, but she has recovered from her injuries.

Dr. Mungia said that Maslo was doing fine after the blade was removed, and that he would have been discharged within the hour. He was administered antibiotics to treat his wounds, said Dr. Mungia.

Police have not charged anyone yet in connection with the incident.
