Punta Gorda’s political and social activist, Wil Maheia, leader of the People’s National Party, sent the picture at the side to Amandala, with a letter condemning the statements by Belize Attorney General Wilfred Elrington while at the Organization of American States last week.
Maheia said that he and his supporters went to the border in September and took the picture at Gracias a Dios, where a border marker is, “to show Belizeans that our borders exist, and to remind Belizeans that we must take care of our borders,” and “was appalled” by Elrington’s comments to the OAS that our borders with Guatemala were “artificial.”
Maheia also said that he was “skeptical” of the role played by the OAS, because “while they are acting as mediators, the illegal incursions by Guatemalans have continued unabated.”
The letter appears under the letter section.
