BDF 3-peats; 2-0 over Toledo Ambassadors

SportsBDF 3-peats; 2-0 over Toledo Ambassadors
Despite gray skies and a soggy pitch, a large crowd turned out for the final game of the BPFL Caribbean Motors Cup tournament at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio yesterday, where two-time defending champion, home standing Belize Defence Force made it three in a row, when they defeated the visiting Toledo Ambassadors, 2-nil, in a well played, very competitive and exciting match. After a scoreless first half, BDF got an early second half goal at the 48th minute from Richard “Cheety” Jimenez, but it wasn’t until the 87th minute that they got the insurance goal from Daniel “Danny” Jimenez to put the game out of reach of their opponents.

After the game, trophies and awards were issued to the champs and sub-champs, as well as to individual awardees for the regular season of the Caribbean Motors Cup. On hand to receive their awards were Jarrett Davis (F.C. Belize) – Best Forward; Woodrow West (Belize Defence Force) – Best Goalkeeper; Vallan Symms (Belize Defence Force) – Best Defender; Andres Makin (Toledo Ambassadors) – Best Coach. Other awardees are: Christian Okonkwo (F.C. Belize) – Most Goals; Deris Benavides (San Felipe Barcelona) – Best Midfielder and Regular Season MVP; Leobardo Mendez (Hankook Verdes) – Best Rookie; Ian Jones (F.C. Belize) – Best Manager. Chosen as MVP Playoffs was Richard Jimenez of Belize Defence Force.

We will have a more detailed game report in our Sunday issue.
