Kathy Esquivel replies to Pastor Scott Stirm

LettersKathy Esquivel replies to Pastor Scott Stirm
Editor Amandala
 Dear Sir,

I do not intend to get into a back and forth with Pastor Scott Stirm, since it is unlikely that either one of us will be convinced to change our principled stands.

However, in the interest of TRUTH, a moral imperative to which we both subscribe, I must call attention to a serious factual error in an article published under his name in the Amandala of February 19, 2012.

In this article, Pastor Stirm claims to recall hearing former Prime Minister Manuel Esquivel making a statement that “the Church is the conscience of the nation.”

Respectfully, Pastor Stirm, I find it my duty to inform you that you are mistaken.  My husband, Mr. Esquivel, whose memory is excellent, confirms that he has never made this or any similar statement.

I therefore advise Pastor Stirm to be more careful in the future in attributing his own sentiments to others in order to bolster his position.

Sincerely,
Kathy Esquivel
Chairperson
National AIDS Commission
