CrimeRed Creek resident shot in the thigh

Matthew Ifield, 32, a resident of Red Creek, Santa Elena, Cayo, was shot in the right thigh after a gunman chased him and fired at him while he was riding his bicycle at around 8:30 Saturday night, August 17, in the Red Creek area in Santa Elena.

Police are now searching for the gunman.

Ifield told police that about 8:30 Saturday night, he was riding home on his bicycle from a restaurant in Santa Elena Town when a man of Hispanic descent wearing a black shirt and a cap came from behind one of the buildings and fired several shots at him.

Ifield rode faster, but the gunman ran behind him, firing several more shots at him. The gunman then escaped through the La Loma Luz Hospital compound.

Ifield said that he rode straight home and upon reaching in front of his house, fell off his bicycle. His brothers, who were at home, quickly rushed him to the San Ignacio Hospital.

Police went to the area and processed the scene, where they recovered (13) 9mm expended shells and (1) 9mm live round of S&B brand ammunition.

Ifield was later transported to the Belmopan Hospital for further medical attention.

The motive for Matthew Ifield’s shooting is still unknown.
