Dear Sir,
You have managed to glean many good articles from U.S. and British sources, the most recent being by Eric Kasum. There are a lot more fairytales that need correction. George Washington did not always tell the truth. Pocahontas did not save John Smith and Lewis and Clarke did not need a guide to get to the West Coast – just a few examples.
When I taught high school history, I was a pedestal kicker. My principal was not happy when I showed a filmstrip about the aftermath of the atom bomb dropped on Hiroshima. “That’s not very patriotic,” he said. “Guess not” I replied.
Should patriotism mean covering up the truth or lying?
