Butane prices continue to fall

HighlightsButane prices continue to fall

Butane prices are now down by a dollar on the 100-pound cylinder, and while the drop in price is merely marginal, it represents the lowest butane price on record since August 2012. As we have previously reported, butane prices hit a painful peak of $128 per 100-pound cylinder in March, but have fallen substantially since.

This was announced in an official release from the Belize Bureau of Standards, Supplies Control Unit in the Ministry of Trade Investment Promotion, Private Sector Development and Consumer Protection. It is noted that prices for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), locally known as butane, although it is mixed with propane, differ depending on whether the butane had been sourced from Mexico or Central America.

For example, the price for butane in Belize City is down from $115 to $114 for the cylinder if bought from companies which import from Pemex in Mexico, while the price for butane sourced from Central America is down from $112 to $111 in Belize City.

District prices vary, with Punta Gorda paying $5 more for the 100-pound cylinder, $119 and $116 for Mexican and Central American butane, respectively.
