Dangriga Warriors basketball friendly on Friday night

SportsDangriga Warriors basketball friendly on Friday night

DANGRIGA, Wed. Jan. 28, 2015–High School Football / The final games of the secondary school football tournament in the Dangriga Zone took place on Friday, January 23, at the Carl Ramos Stadium.

For the males, it was the final game of the second round to see who will advance to the Regional Tournament. Delille Academy won over ANRI by 4 goals to 2. Ervin Ramirez, Eaton Franciso, Dylan “Chris” Flores and Carlos Bent got one apiece for Delille Academy; while ANRI got a goal each from Sheldon Bernardez and Jerome Peters.

Unfortunately for Delille, this 4-2 victory was not good enough for them to advance to the Regionals. They needed to win by 11 goals to get past Ecumenical, who was leading with a huge goal average. Delille Academy finished with 8 points, but a smaller goal average. Ecumenical also finished with 8 points, but they had a huge goal average. ANRI finished with 0 points. So, representing the Dangriga Zone at the Regional Tournament coming up on February 7 in Punta Gorda, hosted by Julian Cho Technical, will be the Delille Academy females and Ecumenical males.

The Independence Zone tournament was completed on Saturday in Independence at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium between Independence High and George Town Technical, both males and females, which were both playing in a 3-game series. In the females, the first 2 games were tied, so they had to play a third game, which went all the way to a penalty shootout, and was won by George Town Technical females. In the males, Independence High males won the first 2 games over George Town Tech males, so the Independence Zone will be represented by George Town Tech females and Independence High males.
