HeadlinePrices up for kerosene and butane

BELIZE CITY, Mon. Jan. 15, 2018– On Friday, the Belize Bureau of Standards announced that there would be price increases for both kerosene and butane effective Saturday.

Kerosene costs rose from $5.89 to $6.40 per gallon — an increase of .51, while the cost of a 100-pound cylinder of butane gas has increased across the country by $7.

In Belize City the cost per 100-pound cylinder of butane gas is now $104, up from $97.

Butane in Belmopan now costs $106, up from $99, which is similar to the costs in San Ignacio.

Further west in Benque Viejo Del Carmen, the cost is $107, up from $100 per 100-pound cylinder of butane.

In Orange Walk the cost is $105, up from $98, while further north in Corozal, the cost is now $104.

In Dangriga, a 100-pound cylinder of butane now costs $108, up from $101. And lastly, in Punta Gorda, the cost is $109, up from $102.

Amandala today contacted several popular food vendors in Belize City, who said that given the increase in butane costs, there may be adjustments in the price of food. We were told by one popular Southside establishment that the cost of a wholesome Belizean rice and beans dish will soon also see an increase.

The last time butane prices were increased was in January of 2017.
