His girlfriend, 28, is in a critical condition at the Northern Regional Hospital
ORANGE WALK TOWN, Thurs. Oct. 11, 2018– A 23-year-old laborer of Orange Walk Town, Jose Medina, a.k.a. “Doofy,” was shot and killed in Backa-town in the Louisiana area of Orange Walk Town at about 11:00 this morning.
Our information is that Medina was walking with his girlfriend, Lucia Luna, 28, in the Louisiana area when an unknown gunman came up and fired at him. The gunman then ran off into the surrounding area and disappeared. Medina was struck in the head and body, and Luna was struck in the chest.
Jose Medina and Lucia Luna were taken to the Northern Regional Hospital, where Medina was declared dead. His girlfriend was admitted in a critical condition.
Police investigations have begun, but at press time they have not reported on any suspects they have identified or of anyone being arrested. The speculation of residents of the area is that the shooting was a case of gang-related retaliation.
On the evening of Sunday, August 19, Junior Treminio and his friend, Christopher Calderon, were murdered in the Louisiana area. The shooting was said to be gang-related. At Treminio’s funeral, gang members from Belize City and other areas attended and gave him a gang leader’s burial.
