BELIZE CITY, Sun. Sept. 29, 2019– Seven months after he was shot on New Road in February, Mark Alexander Clarke, 41, a laborer of Fredrick Alley, Belize City, was again shot on New Road. The gunman, who was on a bicycle, escaped into Cleghorn Street.
Clarke, who was wounded in the body, was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in a serious condition; doctors say that his condition is now stable.
The shooting occurred at about 8:30 Friday night on New Road near its junction with Pitts Alley. Information to us is that while Clark was standing at that junction, a gunman rode up to him, stopped a short distance away and fired several times at him.
The motive for this second attempt on Clarke’s life is again not known.
In February, Clarke was standing at the same junction between New Road and Pitts Alley, when a car passed him and stopped a short distance away from him.
A gunman got out of the vehicle, walked back towards Clarke, and fired multiple times at him.
Clarke was struck several times. The gunman then ran back to the vehicle, which then drove away down New Road.
Clarke was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in a critical condition, and he was later released.
It is not yet known if the same individuals are involved in the two incidents.
