GeneralJordiel Petillo, 23, charged for firing at cop on Mapp Street

BELIZE CITY, Mon. Feb. 3, 2020– At about 1:30 Wednesday afternoon last week, Constable William Woodeye was riding his police-issued motorcycle from Freetown Road to North Front Street, and was on Mapp Street, when a vehicle overtook him and someone from inside the vehicle fired at him, causing Woodeye to lose control of his motorcycle and slam into the back of a parked vehicle that was on the right side of the street.

Woodeye fell off his motorcycle and onto the pavement. As a result, he suffered minor injuries and complained of pain in the chest and shoulder.

The vehicle drove away into North Front Street and disappeared, and Woodeye was then taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he was admitted in a serious but stable condition.

Today, ASP Alejandro Cowo of the Police Department said that Jordiel Petillo, 23, a laborer of Caye Caulker, was arrested in Caye Caulker yesterday and has been charged with aggravated assault against PC Woodeye.
