BELIZE CITY, Thurs. Mar. 26, 2020– Here is an interesting picture from way back that brings back some memories.

We need some help with a couple names from this picture taken in Agua Dulce, Vera Cruz, Mexico in July, 1972.

This was a year after the tragic sports accident in 1971 on the Western Highway that claimed 4 athletes’ lives – Gilroy Buller, Charles “Buki” Leslie, Kyrle “Old Man” Turton and Errol Clarke. Jaime Zaldivar was also badly burned in that accident, and ended up losing a leg to the surgeon’s knife. That 1971 trip was headed for Flores, Peten.

Amateur Sporting Club manager Hubert Bradley, who was in charge of both expeditions, had strengthened the 3rd place ASC football team with some players from Landivar and other teams for the 1972 sports/culture excursion to Agua Dulce, Mexico. The Belize contingent included, I think, the Lord Rhaburn Combo, the Bob Reneau Dance Troupe, and a Belize male volleyball selection.

To the best of my recollection, these are the names for the football team members in the above picture:

The team played only one game, a 2-2 draw, and didn’t advance in the tournament.
