Murder at Pound Yard Bridge

HeadlineMurder at Pound Yard Bridge

BELIZE CITY, Thurs. July 30, 2020– William Emmanuel Rubio, a laborer of Belize City, was stabbed to death at about 7:30 last night in front of a building on Cemetery Road at the foot of the Pound Yard Bridge.

Initial reports are that Rubio became involved in an altercation with another man, and during the altercation the man took out a knife and stabbed him in the chest and abdomen.

The assailant then ran towards the Constitution Park, which is nearby, in an effort to find an escape route down one of the many connecting streets, one of which is Banak Street, which cuts into Cedar Street, which is connected to Mayflower Street, on which there are many areas for an assassin to hide.

However, police, who were on patrol near the bridge, quickly ran after the assailant and caught him. They have not yet brought charges against him, however.

It is not clear what led to the violent altercation.

The city’s Southside is presently under a State of Emergency, which was put in place in an effort to address a huge spike in crime and which has involved the deployment of an increased number of police patrols.
