DANGRIGA, Tues. Dec. 29, 2020– Four fishermen from Dangriga remain missing at sea. They are Omar Thompson, 42; Leon Joseph, 19; Brenton Brackett, 29; and Jeffrey Gomez, 25. The men were last seen departing Long Caye on December 12.
During a briefing with the media, Assistant Commissioner of Police and head of the National Crime Investigation Branch, Joseph Myvett, said, “Searches were conducted extensively by police and Coast Guard officers, but so far, those persons have not been found and neither has communication been made between those persons and their families…the search is still ongoing, but at a reduced level, if you want to call it that at this time.”
ACP Myvett confirmed that they have received information that the Christmas Day murder of Errol Gomez in Dangriga may be connected to this case of the missing men. He says they are considering that “angle” as well, as they continue their investigation into the men’s disappearance.
In a recent interview with Lieutenant Kenrick Thomas, Operations Commander at the Belize Coast Guard, he stated, “We’re not looking for bodies as yet”.
