In 1993, I formed a company named Kremandala, Ltd. to control the assets of our businesses, those assets being primarily, at the time, our land on Partridge Street and the buildings thereon.

The company was structured with my four older children owning 60 percent, myself 30 percent, and Rufus X 10 percent.

There was public criticism from one prominent source that I had “privatized UBAD,” but UBAD had been dissolved in November of 1974.

There is some socio-political/philosophical tension which has apparently arisen amongst my four older children. They are fully grown adults all, and I treat them as such.

You know that there were certain things which UBAD stood for, and certain things that the UBAD Educational Foundation (UEF), founded in 1996, stood for. I think at Kremandala we have done a good job of standing up on these core issues.

The support my son and my son-in-law have received in recent political elections indicates to me that the Belizean people in our neighborhood and city endorse our efforts at Kremandala, over more than five decades, to work in line with our longstanding positions.
The point of this column is to say that it is my sincere hope that my older children can iron out their differences. And I do believe that they will.
