BELIZE CITY, Thurs. Oct. 20, 2022

The sport of cycling remains alive and well among Belizeans resident in the U.S., and this past weekend, a group of Belizean cyclists banded together for a ride around the city of Los Angeles in memory of recently departed two-time Holy Saturday Cross Country Champion, Alfred Parks.

Ironically, no doubt because of the heavy northern migration of young Belizeans over the years, there appears to be much more consciousness, reverence and nostalgia expressed for the departed champion by the cycling community in the U.S., L.A. in particular, than is being observed among the present crop of young cyclists still resident in the Jewel, few of whom have been adequately schooled about the heroics of past champions who ruled the pavement before they were even born.

A home-going service is reportedly being held this coming Saturday in L.A. Our sincere condolences to all his relatives and friends. Respect forever, champion; and Rest In Peace, brother Alfred Parks!
