Another shooting occurred in Belize City over the weekend. The most recent victim, 26-year-old Evian Murillo, was found shot dead on his verandah on Saturday night.

Rio Grande Crescent residents reported hearing gunfire at around 11:50 p.m., and by the time police officers arrived, they found the Belizean construction worker’s lifeless body.

According to the Police Department’s ACP Hilberto Romero, “On Saturday, August 5, 2023, police responded to Rio Grande Crescent where information was received there was a shooting incident. Upon their arrival they found the lifeless body of Evian Murillo, 26 years of age, with gunshot injuries. Information is that he was on the veranda of his house when he was approached by a lone gunman who fired a single shot towards him, causing some serious injuries. He was taken to the KHMH, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.”

The police are currently pursuing four individuals in relation to this incident. These four suspects know each another and all have criminal records, and according to reports we’ve received, Murillo was last seen socializing with them shortly before the shooting.

Back in 2020, Murillo along with Dion White, were implicated and charged for the death of Walter Usher, who was fatally shot on February 23 in Belize City.

Additionally, Murillo faced accusations of attempted murder, dangerous harm, and the use of deadly means of harm against Joyce Edwards. Reports concerning that incident indicate that Usher and Edwards were ambushed by two motorbike-riding gunmen.

White faced charges for not only Usher’s murder but also for an aggravated assault on Gregory Williams, who was present in the vehicle during the attack but managed to escape unscathed.

The motive for Murillo’s killing, however, remains unknown at this time.
