Yesterday evening at the Rommel Fernandez Stadium in Panama, Belize’s Port Layola FC lost, 1-0, to Panama’s CA Independiente in their last Group C match in the 2024 Concacaf Central America Cup tournament. It was a deflection off a shot by Independiente’s Aimar Modelo at the 84th minute that deflected off the leg of Port Layola defender Ian Gaynair to beat goalie Oscar Palomino.

Players seeing action for Port Layola FC in this one were: #1 goalkeeper Oscar Palomino, #3 Norman Anderson (#14 Justin Trapp at 85’), #4 Enfield Nunez, #23 Ian Gaynair – captain, #8 Miguel Garcia (#6 Jarrell Young 78’), #19 Mathias Bandini (#99 Shawn Young 85’), #30 Naim Wilson, #80 Orlando Velasquez (#27 Wayne Ford 77’), #10 Jarret Davis, #70 Andres Orozco (#17 Floyd Jones 85’), and #9 Gilroy Thurton. Head coach was Julius Allen.

Other Port Layola players who did not see action in this one were: #24 Carlos Palacios, #22 Raheem Baptist, #5 Juan Ocampo Guzman, #33 Curtis Valerio, #77 Rene Leslie, and #12 Akeem Sutherland.

Referee for the game was Katia Garcia (female) of Mexico.

It was Port Layola’s first shutout loss in the tournament, having lost 4-1 to Antigua GFC on July 30 and 6-1 to CD Olimpia on August 8, both at the FFB Stadium; and 5-1 to CD Aguila in El Salvador on August 14.

Their fourth loss in the 5-member Group C left Port Layola FC at the bottom of the standings with 0 pts. Antigua GFC of Guatemala topped the group with 7 pts, followed by CD Olimpia of Honduras with 6 pts, CD Aguila of El Salvador with 4 pts, and CA Independiente of Panama with 3 pts.
