Survivors FC of Belize City and the Orange Walk Association champions, Yo Creek FC both enjoyed big wins to lead the National Interdistrict Amateur Championship (NAIC) tournament organized by the Football Federation of Belize (FFB), in which 16 teams played 8 games in round 1 across the country.
The Belize District Football Association’s (BDFA) 2024-25 Closing Season champions, Tut Bay FC struggled to a scoreless draw with the Mid-South Closing Season champions, Garage FC at the Marion Jones Sports Complex in Belize City on Sunday evening, July 6.
Survivors FC marched over the Cayo Opening Season champions, Quintas Elite FC, 4-0, at the Norman Broaster Stadium on Sunday afternoon, with goals by Devon Augustine (67’), a penalty conversion by Cion Augustine (82’ PK), and Tyriq “Hammer” Ciego (90’). Quintas’ defender Elton Baiza (39’ OG) did not help his cause, when he inadvertently diverted the ball into his own net.
Yo Creek FC won the clash of the northern champions, 4-2, over Sarteneja FC at the Carolina Field on Sunday afternoon, led by Liam Reyes’ hat trick (4’, 7’ & 73’) and Nazim Aldana (50’) delivered the 3rd goal. Sarteneja’s Daniel Grijalva (24’) and Elvin Williams (32’) scored for the host team.
The Toledo Closing Season champions, San Marcos FC blanked the Corozal champs, Calcutta Bulls, 2-0, at the Victor Sanchez Union Field on Saturday evening, with goals by Marshawn Lozano (53’) and Raheem Moya (90+5’).
Andres Miranda’s brace (7’ & 15’) led the Toledo Opening Season champs, Legends FC to a 3-2 win over the Mid-South champions, Vikings FC, with Nigel Quijano (47’) scoring the winning goal. Jason Pop (23’) and Dejamari Pop’s penalty (38’ PK) had kept the Vikings in the game up to the half.
The Belmopan champions, Napoles FC savored a 2-1 win over the San Jose Pumas at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium on Saturday night, with goals by Kyle Thomas (35’) and Jalen Myers (88’). Moses West (70’) had tied the score for the visitors, until Myers’ late goal clinched the victory for Napoles.
Elsewhere, Alexander Scott (48’) salvaged St. Matthews FC’s 1-1 draw with the Sharks FC of San Pedro at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium on Saturday night, after Brandon Quijano (18’) had given the island squad a 1-0 lead up to the half.
Clifford Sanker’s brace (26’ & 58’) for the Seabulls FC delighted the island fans at the Ambergris Stadium on Saturday night, but Tyler Peters (41’) had first equalized the score at 1-1 for the Stann Creek champions, Griga Conquerors, in the 1st half, and Aaron Estero (71’) salvaged a 2-2 draw for the Conquerors.
