Tiger Sharks, 90-82, over Griga Dream Ballers

The San Pedro Tiger Sharks remained undefeated as they enjoyed their 8th win, 90-82, over the EZ Investments Griga Dream Ballers at the Belize Civic Center on Friday night, July 4, to continue to lead the Belize Premier Basketball League of Belize (BPBL) with one game remaining to their regular season.

Jihad Wright led the Tiger Sharks with 18 pts, 6 boards and 3 assists; and Keon Rowland put up 16 pts and 3 boards, to lead, 27-18, in the first quarter. Malik Hunt struck from outside the arc for 14 pts and 7 boards. Devin Daly followed suit outside the circle, as he and Tyrell Griffith posted 12 pts and 5 boards each, to lead, 50-40, at the half. Francis Arana shot 10 pts, snagged 7 rebounds and dished out 5 assists, as he stole the ball thrice and blocked 2 shots; and Brian “Beso” White put up 4 pts to lead, 69-57, at the end of the 3rd quarter. Keith Pollard and Raul Roches each tossed in a bucket to seal the win.

Kirk Smith, Jr. struck 4 times for outside the circle to lead the Griga Ballers with 18 pts, 9 boards and 4 blocks; and Danny Conorquie followed suit twice outside the arc for 14 pts, 5 boards and 1 steal. Deshawn Brackett hit a long trey to post 11 pts, 3 boards and 2 steals; and Quinton Bowen racked up 10 pts and 5 boards. Team captain Edgar Mitchell and Kevon Laurie netted 8 pts apiece, and Raheem Thurton drained in a long trey for 7 pts. The Dream Ballers have been the Tiger Sharks’ most formidable opponent this season, forcing the island boys to go to overtime to prevail, 77-74, in their first encounter in Dangriga.

Thunderbolts, 82-62, over Capital City Kings

After a string of 3 losses, the Belize City Thunderbolts enjoyed their 4th win, as they dominated the Capital City Kings, 82-62, at the Civic Center last Thursday night. The Thunderbolts were led by Tyrone Hall, who struck twice from outside the circle for 19 pts. Glency “Coope” Lopez followed suit outside the arc for 18 pts, Luis Sosa put up 14 pts, and Eyan Rene hit 2 long treys for 10 pts. Charles Garcia also drained 2 long treys for 8 pts, Michael Caceres and Matthew Young netted 4 pts each, and Donovan Baird threw in a bucket.

Brandon Flowers led the Kings with 16 pts, Shane Pratt struck thrice outside the arc for 13 pts, and Nisani Mendez netted 10 pts. Jamaal Harris, Elvis “Rebel” Olivera and John Kelly shot 6 pts each, and Kendre Jackson tossed in 5 pts.

Western Ballers, 87-82, over Thunderbolts

On Saturday, also at the Civic, the Thunderbolts took a tumble as they suffered their 4th loss, 87-82, to the Cayo Western Ballers, who enjoyed their 3rd win after 3 losses. Hall struck 4 times outside the circle, as he and Young shot 20 pts each to lead, 20-15, in the first quarter, and 39-35 at the half. Victor Evans scored 19 pts, Glency Lopez shot 16 pts, and Luis Sosa netted 5pts. Greg Fisher threw in a bucket.

For the victorious Western Ballers, Arik Nicholas struck thrice outside the arc to lead the visitors with a monster 34 pts, 15 boards, 4 assists and 2 steals. Dennis Flowers III followed suit twice outside the circle for 17 pts, and Jaheim Ciego posted 13 pts, for the Ballers to take over the lead, 60-57, at the end of the 3rd quarter. Nick Everett shot 8 pts, Danell Oden put up 7 pts, and Jamie Carbajal and Aaron Allison netted 3pts apiece. Kyron “Tut” Molina tossed in a bucket.
