BELIZE CITY, Thurs. Sept. 19, 2019– An American man from the state of Kentucky who has been indicted on multiple sexual offences and who had fled the US and was living in the shadow of the Ladyville Police Station, was apprehended early this morning by US agents and local authorities.

Lad Duane Ottofy, 60, of Owensboro, Kentucky, was arrested by Belize police after he was found at an apartment owned by the former United Democratic Party (UDP) senator, Juliet Thimbriel.

Reports out of the US are that Ottofy was indicted by a grand jury in March and was released on a $25,000 cash bond that was posted by his brother.

Owensboro police charged Ottofy with four counts of first degree sexual abuse, one count of first degree sexual abuse (victim under 12 years), one count of second degree rape, and one count of second degree sodomy.

Ottofy, reports say, abused several juveniles between November 2017 and December 2018.

Owensboro police charged Ottofy in January, and that was when his brother posted the $25,000 cash bond, but the accused man never turned up in March when he was scheduled to be arraigned on the charges.

Neither did he turn up on several other scheduled arraignment dates.

On Wednesday, Davies Circuit judge, Joe Castlen, revoked Ottofy’s bond. The money that his brother, Steven Ottofy, posted will be confiscated by the state.
Steven Ottofy said that he borrowed the money from his 401k (a retirement savings account) to post the bond for his brother.

Ottofy will be kept in police custody for 48 hours, after which he will be handed over to a US Marshall who will escort him out of the country.
