COROZAL TOWN, Wed. Feb. 19, 2020– Angel Cahueque, 26, a labourer of Corozal Town, was executed in his yard in the Halls Layout area of the town at about 8:30 last night.
Police said that Cahueque was at home in his room when someone came into the yard, which is not fenced, and called out to him.
Present in the family house at the time were his parents and other family members, who heard the person calling for him.
Cahueque stepped out of the house to find out what the person wanted, and as he came out, someone who was lurking in the shadows by the house fired three shots at him and then ran out of the yard.
Cahueque was strucked in his head and body and died almost immediately.
Members of his family screamed when their loved one was shot. His neighbours, who were alerted by the sound of gunshots and the screams in the area, came out to see what was happening, and saw Cahueque lying on the ground in his yard in front of his family’s house. Police who processed the scene took Cahueque’s body to the Corozal Hospital, where he was officially declared dead.
Cahueque’s neighbours told the media that they are fearful because strangers are often seen walking in their neighbourhood, and they are calling on police to conduct patrols in their area more frequently.
Police investigating the murder said that Cahueque was known to them. It has been suggested that the murder may have been in retaliation for the brutal murder of a farmer in Paraiso in 2016, a case in which Cashueque was a suspect. Police have not confirmed this claim. They have not yet made any arrests for the murder.
