The veteran Wilfred “Chiqiblue” Nicholas, after all these years still has game, as he totaled 10 pts 2 rebs in the win, while his teammate Ian “AC” Augustine chipped in with 8 pts 9 rebs. Meanwhile for Youth for the Future, it was Lonnie Trapp leading the way with 9 pts, followed by Dwayne Davis with 8 pts 14 rebs. In game two, Telemedia’s Digicell had their way with Belize Healthcare Partners/Central Cable, winning by the final score of 74-49, behind Jamaal Kelly 22 pts 6 rebs 3 asst and Devon Lozano 16 pts 2 rebs. BHPL/Central Cable, who are yet to win a game this season, was led by Trevor Meighan 15 pts 15 rebs and Samuel Neal 15 pts 3 rebs. Atlantic Bank won their fifth game in seven outings, as they dropped BWSL by the final score of 49-40. Andrew “Head” Staine totaled 14 pts 3 rebs in the win, followed by Ian “Penny” Ferrera 12 pts 1 reb. Meanwhile, for BWSL it was Lawrence Young totaling 14 pts 4 rebs, followed by Karim Thompson with 8 pts 10 rebs. In the fourth game of the day, FCIB/Quan’s remained undefeated at (6-0), as they destroyed the hapless BEL team by the final score of 95-39. Jacob “Snake” Leslie continued his tear on the league, as he totaled 32 pts 5 rebs 7 asst in the win. He was ably aided by the complementary play of Jaheed Smith 14 pts 15 rebs. In the final game of the day, the Roe Group cemented their bid for the post-season, as they won in convincing fashion over National Fire Service by the final score of 58-31. Mark Swift had 13 pts in the win, and was followed by Dave Apolonio’s 12 pts 4 rebs. For the firemen it was Tyrone Bood totaling 9 pts 3 rebs and Phillip Arthurs totaling 8 pts 4 rebs.
Ismail Shabazz, who would have been the UBAD treasurer in 1971, over a period of time had been calling for us to get “military” training from Kimani Kenyatta. Such was the status of Ismail, who had been one of the UBAD founders in February of 1969 and a Supreme Court co-defendant with myself in July of 1970, that eventually he got his way.
Justice Awich dismisses appeal to stay hands of Central Bank, which ordered BBL to remove the asset from its books.. Justice Legall to hear main claim in the Supreme Court... The Belize Bank Limited today lost a round in its battle with the Central Bank of Belize, as it tries to fight off a directive of the regulator in which it demands that the bank remove a $20 million asset listing from off its books. That listing is for the portion of the Venezuelan Housing Grant which the Government of Belize, under the Musa administration, had paid to the bank to partially satisfy what the Belize Bank contends is a valid and binding sovereign guarantee to settle the debt of Universal Health Services Limited (UHS), now Belize Healthcare Partners Limited.
Aging is not an avoidable circumstance in the journey of life. With that reality in mind, the issue of social protection for the elderly should be an important topic for the younger generation of Belize.

The oil was always there too and there it would have remained but for the meeting of capital and enterprise – capital to pay for equipment, workers and technology, enterprise to dare.

Seven years ago I visited the Social Security office in Belize City at their new administration building. I needed to use the rest room, but the response I received was disappointing. I was told that there is no restroom for the public: they only have for staff.

Next Friday marks the 41st anniversary of the establishment of Amandala, which began as the newspaper organ of a cultural organization called the United Black Association for Development (UBAD). When UBAD entered an alliance with the People’s Action Committee (PAC) in October of 1969, then this new organization (known as the Revolitical Action Movement - RAM) published a single newspaper called Amandala with Fire, Fire having been the newspaper organ of PAC.
"Placencia …cannot sustain that [tourism] traffic," the Placencia chapter of BTIA argues... Belmopan police who responded to a call about an unknown male who had been a victim of gun violence, found a man lying face up, bare-chested and both hands on his chest, with blood coming from the head and two visible bullet wounds, one in the right neck and the other under the right side of the chin. The deceased is still unknown to police. There had been no reports of a missing man.
