BELIZE CITY COUNCIL LEADS INTEROFFICE BASKETBALL

SportsBELIZE CITY COUNCIL LEADS INTEROFFICE BASKETBALL
With the 2007 Semi-Pro Basketball Championship already decided, the focus now shifts to who will win this year’s Interoffice basketball championship. With the playoffs just about two weeks away, the Belize City Council team clearly is the front runner, having won all four of their games played so far. Last Sunday, however, they got a scare, as they had to go into overtime to dispose of the (1-2) Complex Bombers, winning by the slimmest of margins, 67-65. Randolph “Panta” Humes was the high man with 18 pts, followed by Bernard Bennett with 13 pts, six of his thirteen points coming in the clutch, as he was able to hit two big three-pointers, which sent the game into overtime. Chester Noralez of Complex Bombers had a game high 22 pts, while his teammate Kendis “Pippen” Ferguson contributed 21 pts.

In game two of the day, Atlantic Bank Ltd. won handily, 62-44, over the now 0-3 BEL Megawatts. Andrew Staine had 17 pts for Atlantic Bank Ltd. while Leon Young led the Megawatts with 12 pts.

The defending champs, Tuff E Nuff, who now boast a 3-1 record, embarrassed the Bar Association of Belize by the score of 81-56. “Stash of Cash” famed Keith “Dos” Pollard had 19 pts in the win, while Travis “Silent Assassin” Santos showed that he could still put up the numbers, scoring 19 pts.

In the final game of the day, Division B leader Belize Telemedia improved their record to 3-1 by downing the now (2-2) Aero Dispatch Airport by the score of 59-52. Edward Thompson had a strong game for the phone company, totaling 20 pts; he was assisted by Devon Lozano, who contributed 14 pts in the win. Meanwhile, Ronald Alarcon had a big scoring night, putting up 30 pts, however, in a losing effort.

The games continue tonight at the City Center at 7:00 p.m., as the Belize City Council will put its undefeated record on the line when they face a struggling (2-2) Customs team. In game two, the scalpers certainly will have their night off as the winless BEL Megawatts will do battle against the (2-1) BWS Pressure.

Four games are on tap for Sunday. In game one, BWS Pressure will have to recover quickly as they will once again have to take to the court, this time against the (2-2) Atlantic Bank Ltd. In game two, the struggling GPO/Treasury squad will try to break out of their slump against an average (2-1) KHMH club. Game three has the winless Angelus Press matching up against an undefeated (3-0) Home Protector/Brodies combination. Meanwhile, in the last game of the day, Belize City Council will try to improve on their perfect record when they face the winless Bar Association of Belize.
