BELIZE CITY, Wed. May 26, 2021– Belize was one of only eleven (11) countries that bothered to participate in the 2021 Concacaf Beach Soccer Championship (CBSC) held in Alajuela, Costa Rica from last week Monday, May 17, to Sunday, May 23, when the semifinals and finals were played. By then, Belize’s Jaguars, the first to be eliminated, were already back home after losing group matches to Mexico, 3-6, and to Panama, 1-8 . Evan Mariano scored 2 and Marlon Meza got the other against Mexico.

With only 3 members in our Group A, after losing games on Monday and Tuesday, the tournament was over for the Belize Jaguars; while, with 4 teams each in Groups B and C, all others had another group match day on Wednesday, May 19. The quarterfinals were on Friday, the semifinals on Saturday, and on Sunday the competition climaxed with the 3rd place match followed by the championship final.

In the semifinals on Saturday, USA dropped Mexico, 5-2; and El Salvador trounced Guatemala, 6-2.

In Sunday’s climax, Concacaf.com reports that: “In the Third-Place Match, Guatemala achieved their highest finish ever at a CBSC with a 5-2 win over Mexico.” And in the final, “Exon Perdomo scored four goals to power El Salvador to a 6-4 victory over the United States in the Final of the 2021 Concacaf Beach Soccer Championship on Sunday at the Sports Complex Fedefutbol- Plycem in Alajuela, Costa Rica.”
