Belizean students studying in Cuba are extremely concerned about their monthly stipend because two weeks ago a Belizean delegation consisting of representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Education, Health, and Agriculture, as well as from the Prime Minister’s office, came to Cuba to improve foreign relations and to inform students that due to the current economic status of the country, the government had to do some prioritization, and the government could not give the students their monthly stipend as expected.
However, the students were informed that in two weeks time their stipends would be available. Two weeks have already gone, and due to the present weather conditions in Cuba, the students called the Belizean Embassy to make some small preparations for the incoming weather, but were informed that the Belizean Embassy in Cuba had not received any information from the Belizean Government.
As of Wednesday, October 31, 2007, the Belizean Embassy in Cuba has not received any information from the Belizean Government as to when the stipends will be sent, or if the stipends will be sent, and the Belizean students studying in Cuba are extremely concerned, because they have not received any information from the Government of Belize about their monthly stipends.
