Boat runs aground on the Barrier Reef in San Pedro

GeneralBoat runs aground on the Barrier Reef in San Pedro

SAN PEDRO, Ambergris Caye, Mon. Sept. 16, 2016– A boat in which 8 tourists were sailing, in front of San Pedro, this morning ran into the reef and the boat capsized. Luckily, no one was injured.

The Coast Guard and other rescue companies went to the area and helped the visitors. The Coast Guard secured the boat, which is owned by a tour company of Caye Caulker. They now await a team from the Department of the Environment to inspect and assess the damage to the reef, if any, and to put a monetary value on the damages.

The company that owns the boat will be invited to pay for the damage to the reef out of court, but if there is a refusal to settle out of court, the matter will be taken to court.
