GeneralCar collides with James Bus; 1 dead

BELIZE CITY, Mon. Jan. 10, 2022– Around 6:10 last night, a man lost his life when the vehicle he was driving crashed into a James Bus between Miles 19 and 20 on the George Price Highway, in the general vicinity of Hattieville Village. When police went to the scene, they found Mario Rivero pinned to his white Chevy Tracker, and the James Bus was seen on the side of the road. They called on the personnel from the Ladyville Fire Department to extract Rivero from the vehicle using the “jaws of life” tool. He was then transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, and pronounced dead shortly after.

The driver of the bus, Eric Neal, told police that Rivero had driven head-on into the bus. He said that he made attempts to swerve in order to avoid the collision but was too late and both vehicles ended up on the left side of the highway. Rivero was reportedly trapped in the vehicle for some time before being taken out.

The James Bus was heading in the direction of Belize City. A police investigation continues.
