BELIZE CITY, Mon. Oct. 25, 2021 –Police have identified a dead man whose body was found floating in the river near Belama Phase 5 in Belize City on Sunday as one Gilbert Martinez.
The deceased man, whose limbs were tied when he was found, is described as being of dark complexion and having dreadlocks. He was wearing a grey, long-sleeved shirt and black pants, and his body was in an early stage of decomposition.
Belama police noticed cut wounds to the body of the victim and concluded that some form of foul play may have occurred. A post-mortem examination will soon be conducted on the corpse.
This evening police informed the public that the victim has been identified as Gilbert Martinez, a 35-year-old Belizean of a Belama Phase 4 address, who they believe was the victim of a chopping incident. No one has yet been detained in connection with this recent homicide.
