COROZAL TOWN, Wed. Aug. 11, 2021– On Wednesday, August 11, ranch owner and well-known Chan Chen Village resident, Eder Hall, 29, was ambushed while ordering tacos at a local deli on 2nd Street South, Corozal, and was gunned down on the street.
Eyewitnesses reported that while Hall was placing his order, an unidentified man walked up to him and, while standing beside him, revealed a firearm that was tucked under the waist of his pants. On seeing the firearm, Hall attempted to flee, but was shot by the gunman, who pursued him and fired multiple bullets in his direction.
Hall was severely wounded, and upon being transported to the Corozal Community Hospital, he was pronounced dead.
Hall had been targeted by gunmen prior to this fatal attack. It has been reported that Hall, alongside his brother Eliazar and an employee of his, Emir Rosado, were victims of a failed kidnapping attempt in 2017 while they were in Ranchito Village, to which they had traveled to procure a vehicle. Hall and his companions were greeted by a trio of armed men who robbed Hall of $15,000, in addition to personal items that the men had in their possession. Hall, his brother and Rosado were later tied up and transported to Libertad Village, where the kidnappers allegedly intended to toss them into the New River. Hall would later tell local reporters that he resolved to make a final attempt to break free, despite the risks of being shot, and he was able to escape from the abductors.
In footage retrieved from 7News’ archives, Hall can be heard explaining to reporters how he was able to gain the upper hand and escape from the kidnappers. “I said, ‘I’m not going to stay here; if I’m going to die, I’m going to die trying. I’m not going to stay like a coward, just let them kill me,” he had said. He had gone on to explain, “So, I already had the Gillette [razor] in my hand; my hands are loose, so I used one hand to remove the bag that they have on my head and I tried to fight with the guy and take away the gun. I managed to take away the gun. When I took away the gun, I told him, ‘what are you going to do now?’ I pulled the trigger, but it didn’t go off.”
“I pointed the gun, he started to run and when I pulled the trigger, it didn’t go off. So, actually they were also lucky that the gun didn’t work, because I had decided to kill both of them right there on the spot. It was my life or it was theirs,” he had said.
It is not known whether the shooting which caused his death this week might be connected to this incident which occurred in 2017.
Hall’s mom, Yolanda Hall, told local reporters that her son was a kind man who came from humble beginnings. He used to collect bottles to sell, so that he could buy water when he was a student, she said. She further noted that he harbored no malice towards anyone. She explained that he would always say, “Even if someone does harm onto you, you should not repay them back with harm, but rather you should treat them back with kindness.”
Hall’s mom was thus shocked to find out that her son was violently gunned down. She said that she had undergone a surgery in Chetumal on Monday and had seen him only 2 days later, before the incident occurred. Eder Hall, 29, leaves behind his wife and his 2 daughters, who are 5 and 11-years old.
The police continue to investigate this recent shooting and are seeking probable suspects in connection with Hall’s death.
