Fire destroys house in Lords Bank

GeneralFire destroys house in Lords Bank

LORDS BANK, Belize District, Mon. Aug. 19, 2019– A lumber house belonging to Kimberly Betancourt, 32, a Lords Bank resident, was completely destroyed by fire at about 8:00 last night.

The Ladyville Fire Service was called to the scene of the fire in Lords Bank, and the firemen were able to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to the other buildings in the area.

Kimberly Betancourt, said that the loss to her so far is estimated to be $37,000.

Fire investigators have begun an investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire, but the investigation has not yet been concluded.

During the regular police press brief held this afternoon at the Raccoon Street Police Station, ASP Alejandro Cowo said that the caretaker of the house, an elderly man, was inside when suddenly the house erupted in flames. Police and the fire service were called, but by the time the firemen arrived the house had already been destroyed.

The cause of the fire is not yet known. Luckily, no one was injured.

However, Betancourt said that she strongly believes that her house was burnt deliberately, that it was the result of arson.
