SHIPYARD, Orange Walk District, Fri. Jan. 10, 2020– Franz Reimer, 7, who was having fun with a horse in their yard in Shipyard, stood behind the horse and tied the rope around his waist, and as the horse sprinted away, he was dragged on the ground, causing him to suffer massive head and body injuries.
A neighbor who saw what was happening managed to stop the horse, but the boy was already dead.
The tragedy occurred at about 2:30 yesterday afternoon.
Foul play is not suspected in the child’s death.
According to CTV 3 News Orange Walk, Shipyard is a Mennonite community, and they use horse and buggy for transport, and boys as young as 7 can be seen riding and controlling horses and horse-drawn buggies.
