GeneralFugitive Rodwell Arzu remanded for murder

BELIZE CITY, Fri. Feb. 14, 2020– The search for Rodwell Arzu, 38, a mechanic of Independence, Stann Creek District, who was wanted for the murder of his common-law wife, Geraldine Flowers, 43, of Dangriga, has ended.

Arzu was captured in Puerto Cortes, Honduras. The announcement was made today by Senior Superintendent Hilberto Romero.

Romero said that Arzu was in police custody in Honduras and after being on the run for 7 months, he has been returned to Belize, and has been arraigned and remanded on a charge of murder, for the death of Geraldine Flowers, 43.

Arzu additionally faces charges for allegedly shooting and stabbing Samuel Reid, 34, of Belize City, who was in Flowers’ house at the time of the murder.

Arzu, without Flowers’ permission, went into her home with a key he had kept after their relationship had ended, and found a man in the living room of the house. The man was Samuel Reid, Flowers’ relative from Belize City who had gone to visit her.

Arzu, police say, went into Flowers’ bedroom, where she was sleeping, and when she awoke, he began to quarrel with her, and he ended up shooting her multiple times. She died immediately.

Reid rushed from the living room into the bedroom, where he struggled with Arzu, and during that struggle Arzu stabbed him, then shot him and escaped out of the house.
