Victor Cassanova 18, of Altamira, Corozal, a student of the Corozal Community College, is recovering at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital after he was knocked down at about 8:00 Thursday night while walking with his bicycle through the Rainbow Town Park in the Altamira area, Corozal Town. He was slammed from behind by a vehicle which did not stop; the impact hurled him into the air and he landed on the pavement.

As a result, Cassanova suffered injuries to his head and right knee, and complained of pain in the left side of his body. He was taken to the Corozal Hospital, after which he was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for further treatment.

Cassanova is scheduled to be released from the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital and returned to the Corozal Hospital, where he is expected to continue to recover.

Apart from detaining a carpenter, 38, of Joseito Layout, Corozal Town, police have also impounded a grey/blue Dodge pickup. L/P CZL-C 03793, with no vehicle license, which had damages to the left side front bumper and grill. The driver of the truck refused to give police a blood or urine sample for alcohol analysis in the presence of Dr. Andre Correa.

At the time of the accident, Cassanova was walking with his friend, Yansie Iglesias, 17, of the Finca Solana area, Corozal Town, also a student of Corozal Community College.

The detained driver is scheduled to be taken to the Corozal Magistrate’s Court on Monday, March 17.
