PUNTA GORDA TOWN, Mon. Nov. 23, 2020– Construction worker Eden Mejia, 30, was shot and killed in Punta Gorda Town shortly after midnight on November 19 on a mattress inside the Pampana Street home of his alleged killer.

Investigators have since determined that the homeowner, Aduan Usher, 29, carried out the execution-style killing and fabricated a story which he instructed his common-law-wife, who was also present at the residence, to tell investigators.

Initially, the woman told police that she saw two dark-complexioned men force their way into the residence while she was putting a dog inside. The men then went to a room where Mejia was sleeping and shot him multiple times in the lower back and arm, the woman said.

However, upon further questioning, the woman recanted her story and told police that Usher had made up the story and threatened her with bodily harm if she did not relate the false account to them.

Officer in Command of the National Crime Investigation Branch, ACP Joseph Myvett, said that Mejia had been staying at the residence for the last three weeks prior to his death.
Four expended shells were found at the scene, and on Friday, November 20, Usher was arrested and charged for murder.
