How could we forget!? Notable ballers of the past

SportsHow could we forget!? Notable ballers of the past

BELIZE CITY, Tue. Apr. 7, 2020– It is a work in progress, indeed; and our preliminary list last Friday was shockingly deficient, as “the ink was hardly dry” before some other giant names came to mind. And, predictably, we received a complaint from a fan in Cayo about our omission of a few top players of the 60s and 70s, namely Timmy Bedran, Arturo “Turo” Azueta and Jorge Vargas of Avengers, as well as one “Barrelito” of Chitos. (Thanks, Eduardo Luna.) And we have quite a few others to add.

In our next issue, we will make those additions to the list of notable players from the different periods (there are certainly overlaps, depending on the length of their playing careers in Belize).

We remind readers that this initial effort is just to dust up our football memories and look back at the memorable players of the different eras. Your contribution, especially from districts other than Belize District, with which we are more familiar, is greatly appreciated. Let’s list all ranking ‘ballers or just those we fondly recall for one reason or another. Our next step will be when we begin to narrow down the list towards a small group of “the best of the best.” By then, hopefully, the FFB can “pick up the ball” and carry the process to completion with an official induction to the Belize Football Hall of Fame.

In the meantime, please “mask up” and “keep your distance.”

Condolences to the family of brother Hubert Pipersburgh; and courage and strength to others battling this enemy in our midst.

Jah blessings and love to you all!
