SportsJewel Fury crowned as back-to-back National Women Football Champions

BELIZE CITY, Mon. Dec. 30, 2019– At the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan on Saturday night, December 21, home standing Jewel Fury repeated as national women football champions when they emerged 2-1 winners over a game Rumberas from Mango Creek, Independence, in the final of the National Amateur Women’s League (NAWL) 2019-2020 Opening Tournament. Game 1 of the final had been a 1-1 draw the previous week in Cowpen Village; and it looked like another draw in regulation, after both teams scored early in first half, but went scoreless the rest of the way until injury time. A goalkeeper misplay gave Deysi Beltran (2’) the opportunity to put Rumberas ahead early; but Jayda Brown (11’) equalized for Jewel Fury with a blast from close range. It remained 1-1 until into injury time, when Jayda was cut down on a drive to the goal, and Jennisha Scott (90+ PK) converted to give Jewel Fury the 2-1 win and another championship.

Congratulations to the repeat Champions, Jewel Fury and Sub-Champions, Rumberas!!
