Letter: Football Flashback – 1960’s

LettersLetter: Football Flashback – 1960’s

Houston, Texas, Sun. May 17, 2020– Three players that I remember from that era which should make your list are: Dundee, can’t remember his full name; Billy Gill and Wallace “Smitty” Smith. If I remember correctly, all played for Queens Park Rangers. I believe Smitty was the brother-in-law of Winty J. Rojo Arnold was also family to these two. Billy Gill worked at Melinda Forest Station and Smitty worked at the Citrus Company of British Honduras. Both left Stann Creek in the late 60’s to work in the sugar industry up north.

I just remembered also, a Mossiah that used to be a top notch goalkeeper. I think he was in the police force and kept goal for San Joaquin when they won the championship in 1970. I stand to be corrected.

Good articles, Amandala! Keep it up.

Mon. May 18, 2020– Much thanks. Indeed, police officer Alton Mossiah (or Massiah; not sure of the correct spelling) was goalie for champions San Joaquin in 1969-70 and I think 1970-71 also.

I don’t think we had Billy Gill and Wallace “Smitty” Smith; we’ll add their names to the list. We already had Daniel “Don-D” Lino, Vincent “Winty J” Johnson, Francis “Rojo” Arnold and Alton Massiah.

Thanks for your contribution.
