INDEPENDENCE, Stann Creek District–The family of Juan Daniel Young Menjivar, 20, of Independence, is in mourning after Menjivar was found dead lying on the road in a pool of blood, with a large wound on his head, at the junction of Monkey River Road and the Southern Highway at around 2:40 on Tuesday morning, December 23.

Menjivar was rushed to the Independence Polyclinic, where he was declared dead on arrival.

A post-mortem exam conducted on his body certified that his death was caused by a severe head injury due to a massive skull fracture.

Reports to Amandala are that Menjivar was intoxicated and was sleeping on the roadside when a vehicle ran over him. The driver did not stop.

According to police, Juan Young and another man were seen intoxicated walking on the Southern Highway at about 1:00 Tuesday morning in Bella Vista.

A man has been detained for questioning in connection with the incident.
