BELIZE CITY, Tues. May 9, 2023

Windell Arnold, who had been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed his nephew several times, pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of use of deadly means of harm when he appeared today before Justice Ricardo Sandcroft.

Arnold will be sentenced on June 30 after his attorney, Bryan Neal, submits a plea for mitigation and the Crown, represented by Crown Counsel Reese Cattouse, submits an impact assessment statement.

The incident occurred at about 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 14, 2021. The victim, Deon Brackett, 30, had a misunderstanding with his uncle, Arnold, and while he was in front of his yard on Central American Boulevard, Arnold approached him and stabbed him seven times with a small machete. Brackett was admitted to ward at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in a critical but stable condition. His most serious injury was a puncture to his right lung.

Following the incident, Arnold had been arrested and charged with attempted murder, dangerous harm and use of deadly means of harm.

Today, after he had a discussion with Neal, he decided to plead guilty to use of deadly means of harm.
