Masters of our fate?

I’ve always extolled the virtues, the beauty, the spirit of the Jewel. I believe it is one of the most beautiful places anywhere, and the people, for the most part, are good, decent people. I mean, go anywhere in Belize and you will find that welcome, that hospitality and warmth, which in my opinion, is ingrained in us as a people. Anyone can come to Belize, feel the comfort and the warmth of a very unassuming, and accommodating environment.

Back in the day, murder was rare, mostly because we were more homogeneous and everyone knew everyone else. To own a handgun was like owning a car, almost impossible, except if you were rich, or a business person who needed to protect your property. We also used to have capital punishment for capital crimes, murder, to be specific. You were tried, and if found guilty, sentenced and hanged, or handed down a life of incarceration! I will always believe that this policy was a deterrent to anyone considering taking another person’s life.

Then the Europeans came in and demanded that we get rid of capital punishment or they would sanction us; and because we were poor and dependent on their goodwill, we caved! And hell has followed ever since. We have seen a reckless indifference to the sanctity of life by animals that don’t care about, or respect, their fellow citizens. We have seen witness intimidation and shoddy police work lead to more and more violence, which eventually produces hardened criminals that are not bound by the morals that we grew up with!

It is my opinion that the government should change the laws and impose the death penalty on those who brazenly murder another human being! I believe that your age should not spare you from punishment. Teenagers who engage in murder should suffer the same fate as any adult. Locked up until they are 18, and then suffer the ultimate consequences for their actions!

The police have to have the equipment and the manpower to deal with the violence that seems to increase daily; just read the paper or watch the news, or online. Why should a country with such a small population suffer from this madness? The business of government is to make laws to protect their citizens. The death penalty is an effective measure, in my opinion.

There will be pushback; there always is. But now that Trump is president, we know that we wouldn’t get any pushback from the most powerful country in the world, which still has a federal death penalty! And all those bleeding hearts who think that the death penalty is barbaric, tell that to the families that have lost their loved ones, especially their children, to senseless violence!

2025 is upon us, an election is right around the corner. We need representatives who will protect their innocent citizens from this violence that is turning into a tsunami! We need to make laws to make it harder for violent criminals to walk free among us. We need to grow some balls and become masters of our fate; the Europeans and everyone else who want to stop us from governing according to our own principles should be told to butt out. We don’t tell them how to run their countries; why should they have a say in how we handle law and order?

Start executing a few of these killers and you will see a difference right away, in my opinion. Right now, if you are convicted of murder, you get a few years in jail, or no jail time, and the killings continue. Wat a ting!

It probably won’t happen, but I think that the government should at least try. And while you are at it, include all those Guatemalan military invaders, hang them also!
