The two men were shot on Pen Road in their barber shop
Police say that at about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, uncle and nephew Melvin and Arthur Baptist were in Melvin Barber Shop on Pen Road relaxing, along with two others, when two men rode up on two separate bicycles, stopped in front of the barbershop, and reportedly without provocation, fired at the men in the barbershop.
The assailants then got back on their bicycles and rode away.
Arthur, 24, of Neal Pen Road, was shot in the side of the head, and Melvin, 44, also of Neal Pen Road, was shot in the back of the head. Melvin and Arthur are now fighting for their lives, in a critical condition, at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital Intensive Care Unit.
Police searched the area, but the shooters were nowhere to be found. The scene was processed and, according to police, seven 9mm expended shells were found.
They say that they are looking for the two shooters — whom the officers know, but so far, the men have not yet been found, and the motive of the attack is not yet known.
Witnesses told police that the gunmen came shortly after a man known to the victims entered the shop and began to converse with them. They believe that he was the intended target, and not the uncle and nephew.
